Corey shares the journey that took him from playing and coaching in Florida to building a college program and the lessons that continue to drive him every day.
More than volleyball
For Corey, coaching starts with building the whole person. He believes athletes should be great teammates, grateful people, and coachable leaders before anything else. His message is clear: when you develop the person off the court, the volleyball takes care of itself.
The Team Florida standard
After playing five years with Team Florida, Corey came back as a coach to lead the next generation. He talks about helping elite players understand that every role matters, whether you are on the court, on the bench, serving, or cheering for a teammate. The name on the front of the jersey has to mean more than individual stats or playing time.
Building the boys’ game
Corey also reflects on how much boys volleyball has grown in Florida, from only a few clubs and one high-school classification to more opportunities across the state today. But he also keeps it real: growth cannot come at the cost of young athletes burning out. Let kids be kids, encourage multi-sport development, and keep the game fun.
