The ParaVolley Training Camp at Pompano Beach: A Celebration of Resilience, Community, and Sport

This past weekend, Pompano Beach was the backdrop for an inspiring ParaVolley Training Camp, where athletes came together to share their passion, hone their skills, and celebrate the power of sport. Under sunny skies and perfect beach conditions, the event was a reminder that volleyball is for everyone, breaking barriers and building a stronger, more inclusive community.

One of the highlights came from Paralympian Eric Duda, a leader in the ParaVolley community and a true advocate for the sport's growth. Reflecting on the weekend, Duda shared:"Winning is always nice, but the biggest thing is that we’re helping get momentum for Para Beach. Hopefully, we can get it into Brisbane 2032, and this is a great first step."

For Abram Gornik the event was about much more than competition. It was about fostering connections, mentoring new players, and paving the way for future generations. He described the camaraderie on the sand:"At this point, this is just a big, massive group of friends. I get to play my favorite sport with other amputees and dear friends. Helping those newer to the sport is pretty great."

The event also highlighted the importance of bringing ParaVolley to the forefront of international attention. As Duda pointed out, the growth of the sport relies on events like this to inspire participation and build momentum:"I’m doing this right now because I know I’m not going to be playing in 2032. This is for the future generations."

Athletes not only worked on developing their skills but also enjoyed being outdoors and playing in such a stunning venue. For those coming from colder climates, the Florida sunshine was a welcome escape. Gornik summed it up perfectly: “Where I stayed last night, it was 21 degrees. So you come here to this weather? It’s pretty incredible.”

The ParaVolley Training Camp at Pompano Beach was more than a weekend event—it was a celebration of resilience, teamwork, and the power of sport to bring people together. As the community looks ahead to growing Para Beach Volleyball and pushing for its inclusion in Brisbane 2032, events like this serve as crucial stepping stones toward a brighter future.
