EPISODE 6 IS LIVE

Episode 6 of SpikeNet & Friends is out, and this one is a full-circle moment. The SpikeNet crew sits down with Trevor Keenan, former Team Florida All-Star and now assistant coach at UCF Volleyball, to talk about growing up in Florida volleyball, competing at a high level, and now helping lead one of the top college programs in the country.

FROM FLORIDA ALL-STAR TO COLLEGE COACH

Trevor’s story runs straight through the heart of the Florida volleyball pipeline. From beach courts and junior clubs to wearing the Team Florida jersey and now coaching at UCF, his journey shows what it looks like to experience the game as both a player and a coach. He shares how those All-Star and club experiences shaped his mindset, and what it feels like to now sit on the other side of the net helping athletes chase the same dreams.

THE RISE OF BOYS VOLLEYBALL

A big focus of the episode is the growth of boys volleyball, especially in Florida. Trevor and the crew talk about how the boys’ game has exploded in recent years and how that mirrors national trends, with boys volleyball now one of the fastest-growing high school sports in the country. They dig into what’s driving that growth, better club infrastructure, more college opportunities, and a stronger culture around the men’s game, and what still needs to happen to keep that momentum going.

RECRUITING: WHAT REALLY MATTERS

Trevor keeps it real about the recruiting process from a college coach’s perspective. He talks about why fit with a program matters more than chasing a big-name logo, what coaches actually look for beyond just physical tools, things like communication, competitiveness, and how athletes handle adversity, and how parents can support the process without adding unnecessary pressure or turning every tournament into a tryout.

In a landscape where there’s more noise than ever, social media highlights, recruiting services, and endless advice, Trevor’s perspective helps athletes and families focus on what they can actually control.

COLLEGE SPORTS, NIL, AND THE FUTURE OF THE GAME

The episode also touches on the bigger picture of modern college athletics, from NIL and transfers to the increasing “professionalization” of the college game. Trevor talks about how these changes affect volleyball, what that means for athletes coming up now, and how they can prepare for a more competitive, more business-like environment while still keeping love for the game at the center.

WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH
