EPISODE 7 IS LIVE
Episode 7 of SpikeNet & Friends is here, and this one is specia, a true full circle moment with someone who has been in the middle of the boys volleyball movement in Florida. The SpikeNet crew sits down with Imanol Davila Morales, Puerto Rico–born coach and current men’s volleyball coach on staff at Barry University, where he is helping build one of the newer NCAA men’s programs into a serious contender.
FROM PUERTO RICO TO BARRY UNIVERSITY
Imanol’s story starts in Puerto Rico and runs through Florida high school and college gyms, overseas experiences, and multiple college stops before arriving at Barry University to help lead its young men’s program. Before Barry, he spent time at places like Warner, Oakland City, and McKendree, where he helped guide a 20–8 season in one of the toughest men’s volleyball conferences in the country and stacked wins over ranked programs. Alongside his college work, he has stayed rooted in the game back home, serving as a coach with the Puerto Rican Federation and as a staff member with professional side Gigantes de Carolina in the Puerto Rican Superior League.
GROWING BOYS VOLLEYBALL THE RIGHT WAY
A major theme of the episode is the growth of boys volleyball and what it really takes to advance the game in a sustainable way. Imanol talks about how opportunities for boys in Florida and across the region have expanded in recent years, through high school programs, club, and regional All-Star pathways like Team Florida, which continues to add more boys teams and evaluation opportunities each year. He also shares how initiatives such as Rally On and similar events, often built in partnership with groups like First Point Volleyball Foundation, are creating more competitive platforms for boys while keeping access and development at the center.
CULTURE, LEGACY, AND SERVICE
What stands out most in this conversation is how much Imanol frames his work in terms of culture, legacy, and service. At Barry, he is helping shape a program that is still in its early years, focusing not just on wins and losses but on building standards, identity, and daily habits that will last. In the broader volleyball community, that same mindset shows up in the way he gives back, working with youth, national teams, and regional efforts that open doors for players who might not otherwise get a shot. It is a picture of leadership rooted in community, not just competition.
WHY THIS EPISODE MATTERS
Episode 7 is packed with perspective for anyone who cares about where boys volleyball is going next, especially in Florida and Puerto Rico. From his personal journey to his work at Barry and with Rally On–style initiatives, Imanol shows what it looks like to push the game forward while keeping people first. Whether you are a coach trying to build something, a player chasing opportunities, or a volleyball fan who wants to see the sport grow the right way, this is a conversation you will want to hear.
